ASSESSMENTS:

As part of the In-House Training and Follow-Up Groups, each participant must complete the career interest, the work-skills, and the barriers assessment inventories. These self-administered inventories will help the trainers better assess the participants’ strengths, weaknesses, interests, and barriers. These inventories are not tests, therefore, there are no right or wrong answers. These inventories are designed only to highlight the unique needs of each participant. The assessment takes about two hours to complete.

FOLLOW-UP GROUP MEETINGS:

Follow-Up Group Meetings are held after approximately 60, 120, and 180 days after the graduation from the In-House Training Program. These group meetings are open only to those In-House Training graduates who still have not found employment or been enrolled in an approved vocational or educational training program. These group meetings are facilitated by the USPO job developers with the assistance of the In- House program trainers and Community Resource officers. The graduates will go over their recent job search attempts and new barriers they have identified in an open forum so that everyone in attendance can learn from each other. While privacy is strictly enforced, the group facilitators encourage sharing of experiences, challenges, and new solutions. This is done to teach and encourage the process of collaborating through honest and constructive communication. Sometimes, the graduates will be directly confronted on the mistakes they have made, and then always challenged with new job search strategies. For those who appear better prepared with a demonstrated improvement in job-readiness, they will be referred to a vocational or educational program that has advertised an orientation meeting, or to a potential employer who has advertised an opening. These referrals will be determined by the facilitators based on the availability of the openings, and on each graduates’ career interests, work history, identified barriers, and demonstrated job-readiness. When a graduate becomes enrolled in an approved training program, or becomes employed, he/she will no longer be required to attend the subsequent Follow-Up Meetings.
